The “Normal Person’s” Guide to Different Coffee Drink Types and Compositions

Ever been put on the spot when confronted by a coffee drinks menu that has so many confusing names? Well no more as here is the “Normal Person’s Guide to Coffee Types”

So we begin with an espresso. The purest of coffee where hot water is pumped under pressure through ground coffee to extract all the goodness! Then we add some foamed milk to make a machiato… or if you are feeling decadent, we add whipped cream to make a con panna.

Adding steamed milk, in a ration of 2 or 3 (if you like milk!)to 1, gives us a flat white and adding foamed milk would bring us to a cafe latte. Of course, make sure you put the steamed milk and foamed milk in the cup first. After that add the espresso shot last or you will not see the coffee layer above the steamed milk layer.

For a cappuccino, add equal amounts of steamed milk and foamed milk to your espresso shot.

If these coffee drinks are not rich enough… then for decadence, hit a cafe mocha. Espresso first, followed by chocolate syrup and steamed milk. Top it off with whipped cream.

If you don’t want milk in your coffee, but find an espresso too strong, top up your espresso with hot water to make an Americano.
